AMI uses a communications system with solid-state meters that can remotely transmit the utility’s detailed information on each customer’s electricity use at intervals of 15 minutes or an hour. There is much more data accessible, such as peak electricity use, voltage, and other power properties. Data from individual meters is sent back to utility operations via a variety of connectivity methods.
